However, my list now has one less item on it – golf.
I used to hate golf. I simply didn't get the whole "walking around hitting a tiny ball for hours" deal. Frankly, I used to think the only thing you should do with tiny balls is put them in your mouth. Man, I still love gumballs to this day.
I once heard that angry Scots named one of their beers after what they wanted to do did to the inventor of the game. This beer came to be known as Kilkenny, but was once known as KillTheRestOfTheScotsWhoAren'tUs. Due to a Scottish law created by noted Scottish judge Kenny McKennerson banning the use of apostrophes and use of the letter L in succession in name branded materials, they were forced to change the name. You know the rest of the story – and if not, you'll find it was well documented somewhere on the Internets.
I recently was invited to participate in a charity golf tournament, and Xerxes thought it would be a wise career move. He felt it would be great for networking purposes, which didn't exactly "grab" me. I was ready to turn the whole thing down when he also mentioned it would be also great for drinking purposes. That grabbed me.
Drinking is one of the key tools when you are involved in EffTD. I could ramble on about that, but will save it for another post when I'm more drunker.
I was told to meet my team at the golf course, and was immediately concerned. I knew I could probably use a course in golf, as I'd had little schooling on the game, but to think my entire team needed the same was rather disconserting. Once I calmed down and realized that "course" was merely a term describing where one golfs, I felt better.
I must admit, i chuckled when I was told I was going to be in a foursome. I wasn't sure why, but it sounded funny to me. We teed off at 11:46 am, so you know I had got up exceedingly early that day. And when I was told it would take us about 6 hours to complete the game, I had mixed feelings. I knew I couldn't "meditate" my usual 3-4 times during the day, and yet I was excited at the prospect of doing very little throughout most of my day. Perhaps golf was going to prove to be a valuable addition to my arsenal of Effing The Dog tools.
To be continued…
