Some may argue that the winter holiday season, or more specfically, the Christmas season is the best time to start EffTDing. The method to this madness is that since you are at the tail end of a year going into a new one it is ideal to get things going eventually then. It also doubles as a New Year's Revolution. Also, drinking happens in spades during this time of year, and since that is a key component of EffTD, that speaks to certain people on the ever-popular "partying" level.
But the summer is really the ideal time to start Effing The Dog. The weather is one of the main reasons, and what it allows you to do and not do. The sun is shining, the days are longer. That equates to more time doing the following:
1. Sitting in parks. Or "meditating" in parks. The summer is often a time where you can't tell the homeless from the "homed" in a park environment.
2. Drinking on patios. (Note: Patios generally open only during the summer months. Coincidence? I think not.)
3. Boating with no immediate destination. The best is when you just float with no destination at all.
4. Blockbuster movie-watching. These are great in that they are generally longer films that require much praise to everyone you meet afterwards (or explanation for those unaware of the superhero genre, especially this year), or are short bursts of blowing stuff up that require the same follow-up as mentioned above.
5. Cruising in cars. White sports convertibles are always best. If you are with a bunch of "The Boys", then be sure to wave your arms in the air. People will wonder who the hell you think you are, and also inquire about where you got said car.
6. Long weekends. Nothing says "Eventualism" more than a having that extra day at your disposal. It's the equivalent of having The Tooth Fairy for adults. Only without the literal pulling of teeth. (It'd be great if the quarters under the pillow came along with the deal – they could be used for meter parking that white sports car you're cruising around in.)
Summer's just started – and by starting your implementation of Effing The Dog now, you are truly living in the spirit of getting things done…eventually. Don't fall too far behind though – that's what Fall is for.
