It was only a matter of time when someone began to ride the coattails of my eventual success. Indeed, it has finally happened.
And the culprit is none other than Mike Vardy.
I know what you're thinking, my fellow EffTDers: "but you're Mike Vardy. There is only one Mike Vardy, and that's you."
While i will agree there is only one of this Mike Vardy, it has become clear that others have either taken on my name as a badge of honor or were coincidentally named as such. I've done my homework, and this Mike Vardy does exist – and he is making creative inroads with his new blog and podcast dubbed DyscultureD.
This new site, which was co-created with my namesake's friend of 15 years Anthony Marco of lovehatethings, is described as follows on their website:
At DyscultureD we skewer the latest pop culture happenings north and south of “The 49th Parallel” – including movies, television, music, the internet, gadgets and much more. Feel free to explore the site and the podcast as we turn pop culture upside down to a state we like to call…DyscultureD.
Now i'm not entirely against what this Mike Vardy stands for, and this new endeavor does show promise when it comes to Effing The Dog. Firstly, their debut episode clocks in at around 75 minutes – long by even EffTD standards. I will note that they have indicated future episodes will be shorter, but until I see that with my own ears, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I will offer some advice to these young upstarts if they do stray from length of podcasts…you can offset that with infrequent updates, such as I have done with my podcast.*
Another aspect of Eventualism that comes into play is the fact that it took 15 years for these two to come together to do something of value. Impressive.
Despite the "other Vardy" factor, I suggest you give DyscultureD a chance – you won't be "dysappointed."
*Incidentally, this Wednesday Effing The Dog: The Podcast will have its latest episode unveiled…featuring the long-awaited interview with GeekBrief.TV's Cali Lewis!
