A few stellar things happened over the weekend, putting me in both eventual and perpetual bliss, if only for a short time.
- This week’s Family Guy. I must admit, i’d not had the pleasure of eventualizing during its broadcast in recent weeks, but I skipped the TiVo outright this time to witness the true art of uncomfortable comedy played to perfection. In fact, during the Conway Twitty excerpt, I thought I’d accidentally switched the channel to Hee Haw. But, no…it was Seth MacFarlane and his elite comedic team that had done it again. Now i’ve got another 8 weeks of TiVo’d bliss to get through to see what I pseudo-missed.
- The Almighty Twitter. This week, I noticed a swarm of”celebtwities” joined the fray. Shia LaBeouf, Hilary Duff, Seth Rogen, Jonah Hill,Evan Rachel Wood and some guy Jimmy Fallon directed me to follow all made their presence known on the microblogging service. Heck, even Xerxes joined when he saw that David Allen was “Tweeting” with the best of us. The deadly combination of Twitter and Conway Twitty had made Sunday alone very tweet. (That last word was actually “sweet” but was replaced with “Tweet” to fit the motif of the list.)
- Watched Men. I saw two films this week…one that should have been made years ago, and one that was made years ago. The Race to Witch Mountain had me going in a little upset from the, er, onset due to its title alone. I am not a fan of racing, unless it is being done by a tortoise. But it was a solid piece of entertainment that didn’t race at all as far as running time was concerned. As for Watchmen, while i preferred the motion comic’s epic 5 hour timesuck versus the live-action less-than-three, the film delivered on all fronts. I especially liked The Comedian, because I’ve been told I am one. I aspire to be more like him one day, minus the killing part.
One not-so-stellar thing that happened was the passing of Ron Silver. A great actor who stood by his convictions. I loved all of his work, but I can relate best to his work in the lesser-known Heat Vision & Jack, where he played an alternate version of himself.
