A Marvel-ous Discovery

Piracy has gone to a whole new level.

Now, I usually condone piracy in the form of being an Email Pirate, in that your should horde and plunder your email for all its’ worth.  I mean, when pirates of old would open up a treasure chest there were countless dubloons and jewels jammed to the brim.  Your email inbox is no different.

And you all know my stance on Creative Commons, which leads me to the story about how I eventually (as always) embraced piracy on my own terms.

So with a bowl of popcorn in tow, I settled down with my wife to watch a film that I downloaded off of the Interneterscape.  A film that has been highly anticipated and was to continue the “neventually” (a term that describes how some expect something to eventually lose popularity but never does) ending string of superhero stories taken from comic book to film.

I’m talking, of course, about The Avengers.

Now this film isn’t scheduled for release until 2012, and is only in the writing stages at this point.  But piracy has become so advanced that you can actually download films that have yet be even written, let alone filmed.  Keep in mind that this technology is also advancing, as most prognosticators predict that you will be able to download films that have yet to be even conceived by the year 2012.  For once, I’m ahead of the curve.  It’s totally against character, but what can I say.  I likes my Vision.

I’ll say that I am rather “bambivalent” about this film – a term used to describe a feeling of having a really crappy start (i.e Bambi’s mother being killed in the early stages of said film) but getting over it to get on with one’s life – I wish it was more fleshed out.  The CGI also wasn’t very good, which is odd considering the technology should be better in 2012.  But, I digress…it’s spoiler time!

Warning: Do not read further unless you are prepared to know more about the film’s details – this will spoil them for you.  Also, do not read further unless someone is reading this to you – for that is the EffTD way.

The film opens with some bad guy doing some stuff that isn’t good.  He is wearing a mask.  There is also an evil robot.  You know he is evil because he is helping out the masked fellow.  Suddenly, a goo guy comes along and tries to stop all the bad stuff from happening.  But he can’t do it alone.  He’s good in the sense of justice, but not good in the sense of skill and ability where he can beat a bad guy and an evil robot.  He gets beat up pretty bad (as bad guys can only do, they cannot beat up anyone pretty good) and Samuel L. Jackson comes in and saves the day without swearing once.

Jackson says that he has an idea for a team.  The good guy asks if it will be a good team or a bad team.  Jackson says a good team.  Then they go out looking for people to be on the team.

(I started to meditate at around this point and missed the next part of the movie, so I’ll pick up where I began un-meditating.)

Roll credits.

All in all, not bad.  I’m not sure if it was worth the lack of waiting for it to come out in theatres, though.  I think it’s best for me to continue doing the only right thing – watching any and all films as eventually as possible.

Who wants to come over when I rent X-Men Origins: Wolverine?
