Eventual Fun-Fillment

by Mike Vardy on August 18, 2009

Courtesy of Guinevere.caOn Monday (yesterday to some of you), I revealed the best places to “shop eventually.” While going hopping was half of my leisure activities during my youth, going to Canada’s Wonderland was the other half.  Now that I live out west, the theme park options have dwindled considerably.  I still hold a soft spot for the giant volcanic-looking mountain, even from afar.

However, that doesn’t mean I haven’t found methods of eventual fun out here.  There are plenty of places to wait in lines, hang out on stalled attractions and mingle with a throng of unrelenting children, teens and overwhelmed elderly folk.  I’ll prove it to you.

Here is a seemingly comprehensive list of eventual fun activities:

  1. Golf courses. 18 holes and booze to boot.  This game takes forever and the drink goes down smoother than anywhere else.  With plenty of waiting and its exclusionary demeanor, this comes highly recommended – even if you hate golf.
  2. Sailboats. While you can only be in one at a time (much like the a-fore-mentioned golf course), if you can use your EffTD willpower/laziness and avoid using the motor…you’re all set.  Especially if there’s no wind.  Then you’re all set in one spot.  Which leads us to….
  3. Fishing. The only caveat with this drawn-out activity is that as an Eventualist you can only engage in it after sleeping well past the pastime’s recommended start time.  If you are casting a rod any earlier than 1 pm, you’re not having true eventual fun.
  4. Canada’s Wonderland. Even more eventual due to the air travel.  (Yes, I just can’t let it go.) States-side, I’d substitute this for Cedar Point.
  5. Baseball games. Especially ones destined to go into extra innings.  Or the All Star Game, which accomplishes both the aspects of eventual and meaningless fun.  Like church, I suppose.  And there’s singing.  Like musicals…and church.

So, there you have it.  And now, I’m off to confession!

I could be a while.
