DDIY…Right!

by Mike Vardy on March 30, 2010

handyman DDIY…Right! This weekend I was faced with a decision that left me floored.

As in, I ended up installing flooring in our house.

To be fair, it wasn’t all me that was doing the installing.  I had some help.  My favorite part of the help was the suggestion to rip up the tile that was heavily glued to the floor that was already there.  Truthfully, it was.  It made the process that much more eventual.  There would have only been one thing better than handling the chores in this fashion.

Not handling it at all.

I would have much rather had spent some sweet eventual time drinking the beer I’d bought to reward my fellow “laminate legionnaires”  while someone else had knee to floor.  After all, I admire those sort of folks.

The lesson here is this:  DIY – or do-it-yourself – is an inclination that the productive types adhere to.  It is one of the things that drives them and gives them that sense of accomplishment.   That is their beer.  DDIY – or don’t do it yourself – lends itself to the Eventualist.  You get all the benefits of a job…well…done and with none of the misplaced efforting.  And you get beer as well – actual beer.

By the way, if you plan to pull a DDIAA – a don’t-do-it-at-all – you’re just plain lazy.  Although I do like the eventual nature of your acronyms.
