I’m going to make this article short and very clean, which is somewhat ironic. Nonetheless, here are 5 things that all Eventualists can learn from British Petroleum:
- The longer you take to do something, the more infamous you become. Infamous is pretty close to being famous, which is ultimately closer to being notorious. Take your time and you will be talked about. Who doesn’t want that?
- If you’re going to do something eventually, make sure it’s as big a something as you can make it. You don’t want to be the person who just gets by on being eventual; you want to make a habit of being the best at it.
- Save your worst efforts for your cleaning efforts. If you screw up enough times trying to clean up your mess, someone will step in and take over.
- Oil and water don’t mix.
- Make up strategic maneuvers that sound silly but yet keeps your detractors at bay long enough so that you can either figure out what really can be done or to get the heck out of there. If it’s an office situation, using ridiculous terms like “task hole” or “project swing” will work wonders as well. They seem to have meaning, yet have none.
BP isn’t done eventualizing yet. I believe they are taking part in the 30 Day Ruin The World Challenge that others such as Exxon and George W. Bush have done in years’ past.
They may eventually win.
