The Long and Winding Post

It’s been a long time, budding Eventualists. But after weeks and weeks of nothingness here, I’m winding up with a post here that offers somethingness.

Now what exactly have I been up to over these past two months? Very little…and so much more.

First off, I’ve been using my voice quite a bit. Rather than writing up a post, I’ve been delivering long and winding talks. Whether in a northern-most setting or in a “TEDentary” fashion, I’ve been chatting people up.

TEDxJuanDeFuca was my first stop, where I spoke on the merits of “hacking lifehacks.” The lineup at the event was impressive, with talks that both had me aspiring to get better and perspiring to get wetter. Eventual kudos to John Mardlin and the TEDxJuanDeFuca team…I am grateful to have had the chance to appear at a TEDx event where I wasn’t only listening, but being listened to. Or at.

Next up was Northern Voice in Vancouver. The 8th edition of this popular conference was my first time giving a talk on the mainland, and it was better eventual than never. The team behind the event put together a well-orchestrated two days featuring great speakers, great sessions and great connections being made throughout. The session I presented was on How to Blog Funny, which started off in an eventual manner…just as I like it. I’ve read some nice things about what I discussed, and none of them were self-penned. The Northern Voice crew delivered a fine couple of days and I expect to find myself back again, eventually or otherwise. Hopefully, it’ll be otherwise.

Going from rewarding moments to awarding moments, it appears as if I’ve been nominated for a West Coast Social Media Award, or a “Westie.”

I am nominated in the category Most Likely to Become a Social Media Celebrity, which is far better than what I was considered most likely to become according to my high school yearbook.

I’m hoping that, unlike my unsuccessful bid to win the student council presidency in high school thanks to said most likelihood, I can rely on all of those both leading, working toward or avoiding an eventual life to help me win a Westie. Because I simply don’t qualify for a Northie, Southie or Eastie (thanks to geography…turning a globe or atlas upside down doesn’t change that fact).

So, vote eventually and vote once. Let’s show everyone how democracy inaction works on a smaller scale than, say Canadian federal elections.

Beyond that, I’ve been doing the Dad thing. Both rewarding and awarding.

Eventually I’ll get the hang of it, especially once I embrace the full eventual nature of the calling. That said, soap operas are being cancelled left, right and center — so I could be in stereotypical trouble here. Plus, I’ve noticed a lady in my neighbourhood who bears a distinct resemblance to Ann Jillian.

I’ve got some of those book reviews coming that I promised — as well as some further developments in my e-writing. If you haven’t bought my first ebook yet, The Eventual Planifesto, you should. I’ve got more coming, but this first effort was, well, an effort.

And I don’t do effort, whether long, winding or in a post, very often.
